Hello everyone! I'm Ziyi Zhou from Qingdao, China. I enjoy gaming, drawing, playing the guzheng, and dancing. During my studies in New Zealand, I was inspired by the diversity of cultures, which greatly influenced my design work. Through both coursework and hands-on projects, I learned how to turn creative ideas into practical designs. I had the opportunity to work on promotional materials and itinerary designs for a New Zealand tourism company, which helped me enhance my skills in user experience and brand visuals. I hope my designs can inspire others and share the beauty of travel!
The project, called SUSTAIN-CORAL, is designed for environmental advocates, educators and anyone interested in marine conservation. It aims to raise awareness of the current challenges facing coral ecosystems in the Southern Indian Ocean.
I chose to design this project to combine my passion for conservation with my skills in visual communication. Often described as marine rainforests, coral reefs are vital to marine life but are under threat due to climate change, pollution and other human activities. By producing visually striking materials such as posters, magazines and digital content, I hope to inspire others to appreciate the beauty of coral and recognise the urgency of protecting it.
The project combines graphic design, photography and narrative to engage audiences. From detailed magazine articles to high-impact posters, each piece is carefully crafted to not only educate, but also evoke an emotional resonance that drives people to take action. This holistic approach ensures that the message of coral conservation reaches a wide audience, deepening their understanding of and commitment to environmental stewardship.
