Biography

Hi! I’m Tyra, a design student born and raised in Hamilton but my family is from South Africa. I have always had a passion for creating things whether that be arts & crafts in primary school, art portfolios in high school or a design degree at University. Outside of creating, I love to read and spend time with my family and friends.

My studies at Waikato have allowed me to discover my own design style and voice through working with different briefs and criterias. I have grown so much as a designer from typography to grids, colour to hierarchy. Learning these all in a supportive and creative environment over the past 3 years has been amazing and I am excited for what’s to come!

Project Description

Kina Coast is a kids magazine focused on informing about the marine reserves surrounding New Zealand. It is both informative and fun for kids to understand the purpose of marine reserves as well as how they benefit ocean life and its environment. The magazine is filled with fun, ocean-themed activities to help the kids engage with the contents of the magazine and hopefully spark their curiosity to find out more about what is going on in our oceans.

Bringing this awareness of marine reserves, and their importance to our ocean ecosystems, to the younger generations will allow them to be brought up with knowledge of them that they then can pass on. Whether that be a small amount or a large sum. Kina Coast is a starting point to understanding our oceans.
