Hi, I’m Paige! I’m from Hamilton, and ever since I was a kid, I always loved being creative and figuring out ways to make things look better. Design has always been my way of bringing ideas to life, and I go into UI/UX as I think good design should not only look great, but make life easier.
When I’m not designing, you’ll probably find me taking photos or sketching. I like using visuals to tell a story. I think that really shapes how I approach my design work, which is making sure everything has a purpose, and has personality.
Splashy is an app aimed at primary school kids ,that helps them cut down on plastic use, and learn about protecting the environment. In the app, every plastic item logged affects their virtual ocean – the more plastic they use, the dirtier the ocean gets, and the fish become sick. By making sustainable choices, like using a reusable bottle, the water clears up and the fish get healthier.
I created the idea for Splashy because obviously plastic use is a major issue, and kids can make a real difference if they start learning good habits young. The app’s bright and cheerful design, and the chance to see your ocean get better, keeps it exciting. Splashy helps kids see how their everyday choices affect the world around them, while making sustainability something they actually want to do.
